Aim: To support upland communities in developing a voice in the policy arena
Objective: to provide a rigorous and applicable research and evidence base and to develop open discussion at workshops and conferences in order to develop and share information of policy relevance

Aim: To develop a truly integrated approach to social, economic and environmental issues to secure sustainable upland futures
Objective: To responding to policy consultations from an independent position and through a considered position via wide consultation and by initiating challenging questions and ideas about upland futures.

Aim: To ensure a sustainable future for precious upland landscapes by information sharing and interdisciplinary research.
Objectives: To investigate and share national and international research,  expertise, and experiences on sustainable upland landscapes and communities and to link high quality research with local issues via a participatory approach to research, conferences, workshops and teaching via HE, FE and CPD.

Aim: To celebrate the landscapes and communities in the uplands
Objective: To develop knowledge of, and understand, heritage and sense of place from a variety of perspectives, and to integrate these into a workable future vision of the uplands

The International Centre for the Uplands - Cumbria is funded by
Northwest Development Agency via Cumbria Vision and Cumbria County Council
Lancaster University managed the Upland Centre for the first three years.
The Centre is now managed by the University of Cumbria
