Full Conference Programme

This inter-disciplinary event for all those interested in rural land management. The conference aims to examine rural land management and rural futures for a 2020 vision with reference to policy development and evidence base. The aim is to enhance discussion between researchers and those involved in rural policy debates at national and local level.

Day One comprised keynote speakers and set the scene by examining issues relevant to upland land management. Day one agenda

Day Two involved field visits to initiatives that shed light on possible land use futures and will give an opportunity to discuss research and policy on the ground with a wide range of practitioners including those involved in farming, tourism, mountaineering and nature conservation. Day Three consisted of parallel sessions with opportunities for a wide range of presentations of research into upland environments and the economic and cultural landscape.

The International Centre for the Uplands - Cumbria is funded by
Northwest Development Agency via Cumbria Vision and Cumbria County Council
Lancaster University managed the Upland Centre for the first three years.
